Updates on the real world.

I'll make a list.

It makes me feel productive.

1). Guru was tested, as I think I mentioned before, for Lyme disease back when our vet came out to do coggins. We have been waiting for a while for the test results (lab results), and finally I gave her a call about it.

Test results are negative for Lyme!

So, that's a "yay" in that, no, he does not have Lyme disease, though it is fairly 'simple' to treat, supposedly.
Also, the rest of the blood work was good, seeing as how they did blood work on him, I figured I'd ask about all the other things you see in blood work, all is good. :) That's great!

Buttttt,.........that now begs the question, what is going on. again.

Vet did say that Guru is now 1 of 3 horses in her work that has got this 'left-fore-undiagnosable lameness-thing' going on.
In no chronological order of any sorts,................

-Horse 1 is a large Oldenburg, 4th level dressage ( coincidence on the 4th level stuff?), same symptoms, still ridden with the lameness, taken up to NC state and had bone scans, ultrasounds, x-rays, you name it. The only 'result' was a hot spot in the right shoulder found in the bone scan, but when further looked into, there was no found issue with the right shoulder after xrays/ultrasounds of it. Mmmmmm, so he's back in SC and still off.

-Horse 2 is a WB ( I think?) that as soon as he went lame, was given about a year off in the pasture to rest. They are going to be bringing him back, and it will be interesting to see how he is.

-And of course, there is Gu, who is kind of in the middle of the other two. We have done some xrays, flexions, blocks, ultrasounds, etc. but to no real findings, so he is getting 6 months off to rest and see what happens.

They did ( I was not there that day, but Di and Vet were ) lunge him to see how he is going when they did coggins and did the Lyme disease blood test, and Vet did say he is looking a little sounder, started off 'tight' in the hind end, but as he worked (trotted I am guessing here,.....), he loosened up in the hind and the fore lameness became apparent, still. The stiffness is not an issue, as he is off Vet-Flex after he finishes up the last bottle of it until he is back in work, not getting hock injections while he's off, and he has been off work for a while. No biggie. But, the lameness in the front is still there, getting more slight, (as per Vet's words/eyes) but still there.

So, getting better. Slowly.

2). Jeep is doing great, knockonwood.

We think the truck is sold, the guy, a military guy (which I was hoping for) is waiting on tax refunds, but said he thought the price was a good deal for it, and did not think any of the issues with it were anything serious-he could work on it and 'fix-it-up'.
Danny's dad was the one who talked with him, 'sold him' it, and from the sounds of the guy, he really sounds like the perfect owner for it. Which I am really happy about. I wanted it to go to someone like this who would work on it and take care of it, and who liked the price we put on it. So, yay. Of course, waiting to have the $$ in hand and the truck driving away with him in it, but, still hopeful. :) Had some other calls on it, but this guy sounds ideal, so we are 'holding' it for it, and it is 'sold' to him. Yay.

3). Diana is getting 2 new young resell horses in, she is training and boarding, then selling on consignment. They were supposed to get there today, at 11AM, but with the snow/ice today, I doubt it. I was supposed to go out today this AM (early) to do barn and help with them, but as per the weather, called Di last night while it was snowing (2 inches last night,........about 4-6inches or more this AM!), and she said to not come with the conditions like they were going to be/are. Ok. I asked her about the horses, as they are coming in from Aiken, which was supposedly hit hard, like Columbia, where Danny was stuck at last night(!), more on that later,........., and they would have to drive through Cola.
She had not heard back from the owner as of last night around 6PM, but probably not.

Oh well.

I am really excited about these new horses. I think this is a great new path for Di (and me!). She is very good with young horses and resell prospects. I think this will be, hopefully, really really good. She also wants me to work part-time after doing barn to help out with these new guys. Whoo-hoo!

4). I have NOT been able to get out to ride Sasha as much as I wanted to/needed to this past week/lately due to rain/weather/wind/lessons,etc. I feel so bad not being able to ride her, but she will still be there when the snow melts. It is just really planning my schedule so I can work all of everyone in!

5). My plan is to be able to work/do barn for Diana 3x a week, which we talked about, and then do Sasha/other horses at Susan's barn/Pokey in Hopkins 3x a week, with the last day being either a 'ride Sasha day', or a day off. So, she will get ridden 3-4x a week, Pokey 3x, and doing barn/working for Di as we agreed on 3x a week, with 1 extra day that either Sasha will get or will be my day off.

6). Danny was stuck in Columbia, our house, last night. He had gone up there after work at night to get his phone charger, which he forgot the night before when he went up there to get all of his stuff to have for dog-sitting/staying in Camden. Well, got about 1/2 way to our house and wham! it was blizzard-y. So, called me and his dad, and was told to stay put. Not that he was going out after just getting home in a 'blizzard' 15mph on the highway, anyway. So, he had a 'night at the house alone' last night. I had two dogs in my bed. Maggie and Jager, who get along really well.

7). Maggie is still trying to eat the snow. Last night it was very fun at 2 inches. This morning, still fun, but it's up past her blanket, 4-6 inches, so she cannot move very easily. Kind of a jumping, leapy thing. It's cute.
Not to mention it's cold! But, she does love it. Really. As long as she can come in and warm up afterward.

Stay warm!
-Em
