Other than hacking out and basic schooling on Gu, rode Sasha earlier this week and then schooled Pokey last night.
Sasha was good. I am working with her and ST, so taking notes as to what I felt, ideas for lessons, etc. Overall, really happy with her. Just finding a higer level of clarity and responsiveness with the work though.
Pokey was a great ride; working on getting him to relax more, so of course, still lunging before doing anything, to get him focusing quicker. Added a few ground poles which helped, gave him something to think about other than 'overthinking' what I was asking and racing around. Had a great breakthrough with him undersaddle. Other than I want to try a riser pad under my saddle on him, I don't think it fits him PERFECTLY, but he is so round and 'rolly' that it's hard to tell if it's just that. It slips. Otherwise it fits great. But, riding wise, work wise, had a great breakthrough on his relaxation over his back and working into my hand, instead of being a little quick sewing machine he began to really step through. It was great, I was really happy with it. He is not strong enough in the canter yet to do it undersaddle and hold the throughness in the canter, so just focusing on solidifying the w/t work, doing a lot of canter work on the lunge. He is still having some trouble picking up the correct lead to the right (so the right lead!), but he KNOWS it's correct. So, wondering if there are some SI, hock, or back issues related to that???? For now, we are just building it stronger muscle wise on the lunge. Other lead is good.
Gu is getting stronger, doing a few hack out days, a few off days, a lunge day, and a few schooling days. Once I get a final class schedule for Fall II 2010 semester, I will be able to put him, Pokey, ST and Sasha, and my schooling on Sasha on a better schedule, but for now, it's do it when I can, as much as I can.
Going tonight to probably give Gu a bathe, clean their stall and H2O's, and lunge Pokey. We'll see.
Got my hair cut today, as ST and Sasha's lesson was cancelled, so my day 'freed up' some.
Happy rides,
-Em
